THE UNIVERSITY COMPUTER CENTRE was founded In 1958. Its 108 researchers including 1 Doctor of Science and 17 Candidates of Science do research In the following 'directions:
- development of translators and system software, mathematical modelling of complex scientific and technological projects and problems, development and execution of applied programme packets In this field;
- creation of software for parallel supercomputers;
- research and working out of methods and means for the creation of software with data bases;
- signal processing and creation of software in hydroacoustics;
- working out methods of creating and accompanying complex information systems of management;
- research and creation of automated teaching complexes.
International activities of the University of Rostov include the tuition of undergraduate and postgraduate foreign students (including those trained on the contract basis), joint research programmes with foreign universities and colleges, the exchange of students and teachers.
In cooperation with other Rostov higher educational institutions THE CENTRE OF INTERNATIONAL EDUCATIONAL, SCIENTIFIC, AND TECHNICAL COOPERATION "INTERNAUKA" was established at the university.
In accordance with programmes of International cooperation scholars of the Rostov University work successfully together with their colleagues from the USA, Germany, Great Britain, France, Italy, Chechnya, Slovakia, China, Poland, Turkey, Yugoslavia, Israel and other countries.
The Centre enrols foreign students offering them training for all professions.
It also admits them to Russian language courses of different levels and specialisation, promotes the joint activity of University scholars and foreign researchers, the exchange of new technologies, the sale of licences, the concession of intellectual ownership rights.
The Institute of Mass Communications, the Centre of Informatics and Ecological Modelling, foreign language courses and Interbusiness enterprise form integral pans of "Internauka" Centre.
In 1992 according to the Law on Education the University of Rostov-on-Don was given certificates by the State Certifying Inspector's Office for Higher Educational Institutions in Russia for all professions that it offers and was recommended for state financial support.
